During the Wet Season if you want to travel off-road you will definitely need to hire a 4WD camper. Even then you will need to check the weather and road conditions before you travel on a daily basis. Roads will flood and bridges are impassable.

The Wet Season in the Northern Territory runs from November to April and the rain can get very, very heavy at times. If you want to stay dry and avoid some of the hotter temps(the coolest months are June and July and it can even get as low as about 55 degrees - talk about a cold spell!). Visit Broome between May and September.
